**INTERESTED IN ADOPTING ONE OR MORE OF OUR CATS? PLEASE REVIEW OUR PROCEDURE AND POLICIES BELOW. THANK YOU!**

**We do not have a shelter and cannot take pet cats being relinguished for any reason, or rescued cats. Our mission is spay/neuter. If you have a rescued cat or kitten who needs a home, we will gladly assist by advertising on this website if you agree to foster the cat or kitten until it finds a home.**

Please join us for our next next major fundraiser, our third annual Mardi Gras party on February 7, 2009 from 8:00 p.m. to midnight. It'll be a fun filled evening with hot appetizers, snacks, beer, and soft drinks included in your ticket price. There will also be a cash bar and DJ. Split the pot, silent auction, chance auction, and karaoke will make for an exciting evening! Please buy your ticket in advance. The cost is $25.00 per person. All proceeds from SCOOP fundraisers go toward helping cats (the care of rescued cats and our low-cost spay/neuter program for those who help stray and feral cats).

WHO WE ARE

Our mission: SCOOP is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to reducing suffering and overpopulation among cats through non-lethal methods. We are completely staffed by volunteers. All proceeds benefit the medical care of rescued cats and a low-cost spay/neuter community program called Prevent A Litter (PAL).

SCOOP does not have a shelter and therefore, we cannot take in kittens and cats from the community. Our focus is to offer low-cost spay/neuter and vaccination vouchers to those who help stray or feral cats. While we do not provide direct trap-neuter-return (TNR) services, we provide education and consultation to those interested in helping stray and feral cats. We cannot take pet cats relinquished for any reason. However, we will assist those who help homeless cats find loving homes for adoptable kittens and cats.

ADOPTING A FRIEND

If you're interested in adopting one of our cats, our process involves the following: You'll be asked to complete an application either before or after you visit the cat. The adult who will be responsible for the kitten/cat will be required to complete SCOOP's application. We do no same day adoptions and the completion of an application, or a visit, does not guarantee adoption. Our goal is to make the best match possible as we take into account the cat's needs and the prospective adopter's situation. Adopted cats are taken to their new homes by a SCOOP representative. Our adoption fee is $70.00 for one and $120.00 for two. Most, if not all, of the fee is returned to the adopter in cat supplies. There will be telephone and/or email communication within the first weeks with a SCOOP representative to make sure things are proceeding smoothly, to answer questions, and to address any concerns. A home visit will occur within the first month. Those at SCOOP welcome your calls or emails throughout the cat's life and will be happy to help you resolve any issues that may arise.

Each kitten or cat is tested for feline AIDS and leukemia; vaccinated (distemper and rabies); spayed or neutered; microchipped; treated for fleas, worms, and ear mites; receives a complete medical examination; and receives any other necessary medical care. Each kitten or cat will go home with a cardboard carrier, scratching box, nail clippers, toys, litter scoop, blanket, medical information, and informational articles concerning a wide variety of feline issues.

Adopting a pet is a huge commitment and responsibility. A cat will be completely dependent on you and can live more than 20 years. You'll need to have enough money in your budget to provide litter, toys, food, and yearly vet care. In addition, medical emergencies do happen, especially with high energy kittens, and you'll need to have the finances to pay an emergency fee that could run $500.00 or more. Please make sure it’s the right time in your life to adopt. Kittens and cats grieve and suffer when they're relinguished.

OUR ADOPTION POLICIES:

--For ease of transporting the cat and making home visits, we adopt locally only.

--Cat is kept indoors only. Outdoor cats face many dangers (cars, larger animals, cruel people, poisons, etc.)

--No declawing. (Declawing a kitten/cat requires amputation above the first joint of each digit. Complications such as excessive bleeding and infections can result. It’s possible that the cat will have chronic pain and/or sensitivity resulting in behavioral problems such as biting and litter box avoidance. Kittens/cats whose claws are trimmed regularly and are provided appropriate scratching posts will use those instead of your furniture. Those at SCOOP are always glad to talk with potential adopters about alternative ways to deal with cats’ natural scratching behaviors.)

--Cat is loved and cared for the rest of his/her natural life.

--Our goal is to find the cat a lifetime home. However, unforeseen situations do arise. Therefore, if for any reason at all during the cat’s life, the cat is no longer wanted, or cannot be cared for, he/she is returned to SCOOP.

--Adopters need to have stable living conditions and be independent from parents for at least two years. Adopters need to be willing to take the cat anywhere they move in the future. Cats are not adopted to college students living on campus.

--Due to the difficulty of integrating a new pet into a household with young children, we do not adopt to homes with children under age five. (Bringing a new baby into a house with existing pets is typically an easy task.)

Thanks for visiting our website and we hope you'll visit one or more of our adoptable cats!
